power tower

A transmission tower or power tower (electricity pylon or electric pylon in the United Kingdom, Canada, and parts of Europe) is a tall structure, usually, a steel lattice tower used to support an overhead power line. They are used in high-voltage AC and DC systems and come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. Typical height ranges from 15 to 55 m (49 to 180 ft), though the tallest is the 370 m (1,214 ft) towers of a 2,700 m (8,858 ft) span of Zhoushan Island Overhead Power line Tie. In addition to steel, other materials may be used, including concrete and wood. There are four major categories of transmission towers: suspension, terminal, tension, and transposition. Some transmission towers combine these basic functions. Transmission towers and their overhead power lines are often considered to be a form of visual pollution. Methods to reduce the visual effect include undergrounding.

Concrete pole (cement pole)

At present, the vast majority of concrete poles are used in power grids of 20kV and below, but there are exceptions in some areas. The biggest advantage of concrete poles is low cost, so they are widely used in medium and low voltage power grids, but some areas are also more suitable for concrete poles. For example, in some Gobi deserts in Xinjiang, the wind and sand are too large, and it is easy to damage the anti-corrosion layer of the angle steel tower.

Cement rods can also be used for other voltage levels, but they are less used. For example, 3-110kV mostly uses single-circuit linear rods and mostly uses single rods.

Angle steel towers are the most common form of high-voltage towers. Most of them are space truss structures made of hot-rolled and other limb angle steel and assembled with bolts. A few also use steel pipes (mostly used for large spans). For angle steel towers, it is also divided into cable type and self-supporting type.

The disadvantage of the cable-pull type is that it occupies a large area, and the advantage is that it saves steel. Therefore, if you travel to Qinghai, you will often see this type of cable-stayed angle steel tower on the roadside.
