The water vapor produced by the heat of aluminum hydroxide can also dilute the concentration of combustible gas, so that the product has low smoke performance. It is the preferred flame retardant material for the production of low-smoke halogen-free cables and decorative materials.

For silicone rubber polymer insulators, high ATH content can improve the resistance to tracking and electrical erosion of composite insulators, but if ATH content is too high, the link between the ATH particles and the base rubber will become poor, thereby reducing the mechanical properties of the silicone material.
